Fighting Off the Winter Blues and Choosing Happiness

Image
Does anyone else tend to get a little down and depressed this time of year? I feel as though I've been riding the "high" of the new year and resolutions and a fresh start. At the end of January and pretty much all of February, the cold New England winter gets to me. I miss the sunshine, the warm weather and the beautiful colors this part of the country offers! But a resolution of mine is to be more positive, see the good in things, and look for a silver lining in even the dullest (or coldest) of situations. That being said, I started to think a lot about happiness. I've heard and been taught by several influential people in my life that happiness is a choice; that we choose to be happy or not. I haven't always believed that. Sometimes life sucks. It knocks you down and then kicks you in the butt while you're down. But as I reflect and look back on times in my life that were rough and difficult that I maybe didn't handle so well, I realize th...

Christmas Vacation Part Two

On Friday we sent my parents to the Children's Museum with the grandkids so we kids could finish taking pictures for their Anniversary surprise. We were recreating pictures from our childhood and I don't know which was more fun...taking the pics and reminiscing or my parents' reaction to them! And oh man, the style and clothes from the 90s/early 2000s. Yikes! But we got them all done and had a blast doing it. They turned out pretty dang good! That night we went and played whirlyball. If y'all haven't heard of whirlyball, you should google it! It's basically bumper cars + lacrosse + basketball. Shawn's brother and parents were able to join us as well and we had so much fun! I definitely recommend it for a family outing. Saturday we went indoor skydiving. I was a little nervous because I didn't know what to expect, but it ended up being one of my favorite parts of the trip! That feeling of falling and the rush it gi...

Christmas Vacation Part One

Christmas was a bit different for us this year. Instead, of going back home to Utah to one of our parents' houses, we went to Dallas and met my family at my sister's house. We also decided as a family to do fun things and make some memories instead of exchanging gifts this year. I have to admit, it was kind of weird waking up Christmas morning and not gathering in the family room to open presents. But we filled our time with other fun things! Shawn and I got into town a few days before everyone else, so we were able to spend some quality time with our niece and nephews, do a bit of shopping, and Shawn had some job interviews. I loved walking into a house filled with Christmas trees, lights, and that home-y Christmas feel! We don't have that in our small apartment back home and I really miss it this time of year! Plus, my sister has the cutest house and all the Christmas decor made it look that much better! My parents and youngest sister got into tow...
