Fun With The In-Laws! Part 2

I know this post is a bit late, but I had to write about the rest of our trip with Shawn's parents! Ok so on Friday we left bright and early for NYC! It's only about a 4 hour drive so we got there at a decent hour and found parking for $20 for the whole day...which is unheard of. So it ended up being cheaper for us to all drive down and park then to buy four bus tickets. Can't you tell Shawn's excited?! :)

Once we got to New York and parked the car, we headed to Central Park. If I lived in NYC and was anywhere near Central Park, I would definitely start my mornings off with a run or walk through there. It is so beautiful and peaceful! It was neat to think about how many famous people have been there and all of the movies and TV shows that were filmed there. We had our first chance to use the selfie stick in Central Park and it worked out great. We could all fit in the pictures with a lot of the background too. Judge if you will, but selfie sticks are fantastic!!

After strolling through Central Park, we walked over to see the Manhattan LDS Temple. I had seen it before when I was about 15, but I didn't remember it very well. It is definitely a unique temple. It's built right into the skyscrapers of the city, but it still manages to stand out. Like all other temples, this one is still amazing! Right there by the temple are some other historic landmarks that we stopped to see and of course, take selfies :) We saw the ABC Studio, Juilliard School, and Magnolia Bakery. Oh Magnolia Bakery....this place is SO GREAT! We went there twice in one day for their banana pudding. I normally don't like banana pudding, but this stuff is like crack. So good! We got my father-in-law addicted. I definitely recommend it to anyone who goes to NYC.

We then headed to Grimaldi's for lunch! One of my mother-in-law's co-workers suggested this place and it was definitely authentic NY pizza! It was very different from pizza I'm used to, but I still enjoyed it. The atmosphere and authenticity made it worth it! While we were walking to lunch we passed the "Lenny's" food truck so we had stop for my father-in-law (Lenny) to get a picture! After lunch we took the subway down to Washington Square Park in Greenwich Village. It's a pretty happenin' place! The monument there is a historical landmark that draws a lot of tourists in, but there was also a TV show being filmed there. So it was pretty crazy. Definitely worth seeing though! After Greenwich Village we went down the new World Trade Center and the 911 Memorial. Favorite part of the day in my opinion! Being on those grounds, remembering the events of the day and all those who lost their lives is very humbling and an experience like I've never had. The memorial is BREATHTAKING and so beautiful! Definitely a must see on a trip to NYC.

After the 911 Memorial, we rode the Staten Island Ferry out to see the Statue of Liberty. It was a bit windy, but so fun! The Staten Island Ferry is free. Although you don't actually get off at Liberty Island, the ferry goes right by it and you avoid the craziness of actually being on the small island with a zillion tourists! Once we got back to Manhattan, we rode the subway over to Brooklyn so we could walk across the Brooklyn Bridge into Manhattan. What a neat experience! I loved walking across the bridge. The views are amazing and the architecture of the bridge is incredible! I also loved getting to see the Manhattan Bridge which is just down a ways from the Brooklyn Bridge.

Once we got off the Brooklyn Bridge we rode the subway to Grand Central Station to check it out! It was crazy busy, but just like I'd pictured it and seen in the movies. Since it was about dinner time, we made our way over to Times Square to find an awesome place to eat. We decided on Bubba Gump because let's face it, seafood in New York is amazing! After dinner it was time for a few more tourist sites before heading home. We saw Radio City Music Hall, The Jimmy Fallon Studio, Rockefeller Center, and Magnolia Bakery (yes, again haha!).

On Saturday morning the guys went golfing then we all ate lunch and went to the temple. It was such an amazing day and the temple looked especially beautiful! After we got back from the temple, we changed and headed downtown for the Red Sox game! It was so fun to show my in-laws around Fenway Stadium and Yawkey Way.

On Sunday we went to church in the morning then went out to our new apartment to show Shawn's parents where we'll be living. Right on the beach baby! After that, we went to Castle Rock which we had never seen before either. Wow that place is cool! It's the site of an old fortress that was part of a battle (honestly, I'm not sure what battle haha!). There is a really nice beach and the views are spectacular! The castle sits up on a hill on a peninsula so there's almost a 360 degree view out over the ocean. So pretty!

On Monday for Memorial Day we went to the Museum of Fine Arts and it was packed! The line was so long, thank goodness it moved quickly! We were there for about an hour and then said, "Well that's enough, let's go!." We could only handle so much of the interesting art there haha. So we went back to our apartment, had a BBQ, and then took Shawn's parents to the airport. We were sad to see them go, but it was such a fun trip! We saw a lot of things and made a ton of good memories :)
