How to Build a Spring Capsule Wardrobe

Happy Tuesday!

I know I'm kind of biased, but I think March is the best month of all! You've got the beginning of spring, March Madness and oh yeah...my birthday! I thought it would be fun to have all of my blog posts in March be 28 related since I'm turning 28 this month. So first up, 28 items to help you put together the perfect spring capsule wardrobe!

Spring means warmer weather, new life and hopefully for most...a vacation! Whether you have a trip planned or just need to freshen up your closet, I'm sure that these capsule pieces will inspire everyone!

The whole point of a capsule wardrobe is to put together a few staple pieces from each clothing category that can be mixed and matched to form a wardrobe of multiple outfits. The pieces should all be complimentary in color, pattern, style, etc. So let's get started!

First up, the basics! The best way to start building your capsule wardrobe is with some simple tees. I tend to choose tees that are neutral in color; some solid some with subtle patterns. This way they go with more items and outfits! (Tip: make sure one of them is a plain white tee!) My go to stores for tees are Target and H&M. The ones pictured below are from Amazon, they have some cute patterned ones too!

Next up, blouses. I like to keep my blouses neutral for the most part, but every once in awhile I'll add a fun pattern like this leopard print or some texture like this waffle henley thermal. It's also super helpful to have a variety of sleeve lengths and material thickness. Spring is a very unpredictable time in terms of weather (especially here in Texas right now oh my heck) so having items for different temperatures is ideal. Plus, different styles, textures and patterns help you build a well-rounded wardrobe for any occasion. I love shopping for blouses at Amazon and smaller boutiques!

Grey Peplum Top - Nordstrom - $39
Leopard Button Up - Amazon - $19
White Flowy Blouse - H&M - $30
Beige Thermal Button Up - Amazon - $25

Ok, let's talk jackets! I love jean jackets! They are so versatile and can be worn with so many things which makes them perfect for a capsule wardrobe. And leather jackets are usually lighter weight and perfect for the not-so-warm-yet spring weather that a lot of areas experience. Going with a neutral color like beige or black is best! Gap, Express and Forever 21 have great jackets!

Jean Jacket - Gap - $35

Sweaters are some of the most important items to have in your spring capsule wardrobe because you will wear them all the time! Wishy-washy spring weather is why sweaters and cardigans were invented...layering when it's chilly and taking them off when it warms up! Be sure to consider different materials, thickness, pattern and sleeve length when choosing which sweaters you'll include in your capsule wardrobe. H&M is my go to sweater place! Banana Republic and Target also have good ones.

Leopard Sweater - H&M - $25

Raise your hand if you love skirts!! Especially in warmer weather...they're loose and breezy and so comfy! Long pleated skirts are classy, but can also be dressed down. Denim skirts are casual, can be worn multiple ways and make a great addition to any wardrobe. H&M, Boohoo and Forever 21 are my favorite stores for skirts!

Denim Skirt - H&M - $35

One of my favorite things...jeans! Seriously, I'm obsessed with jeans and finding great pairs. Maybe it's because I'm picky and they have to fit perfectly. It's important to have different styles and washes of jeans in your capsule wardrobe to add variety. White jeans are good for spring and you can't go wrong with a good dark wash and a light wash. As far as styles, mom jeans are very in right now and skinny jeans American Eagle has awesome jeans as well as H&M!

Dark Wash Jegging - American Eagle - $35
Medium Wash Mom Jeans - American Eagle - $35
White High Waisted Jegging - American Eagle - $42

Y'all know that sweatpants are where it's at! But there are just times when you want to be comfy and sweatpants won't cut it...cue joggers. A "classier sweatpants" that can be dressed up! These are definitely a staple piece that every woman needs in her closet. Stick to a neutral color and then add color with a blouse or jewelry. H&M has a bunch of good ones!

Gray Joggers - H&M - $13

I know not everyone is a fan of jumpsuits, but they're actually really growing on me! They're comfy and can be styled in such different ways; perfect for spring days that are warmer but not quite hot enough for a skirt or shorts. That being said, not all jumpsuits are created equal and not all are flattering! So make sure you find jumpers that are flattering on your body type and accentuate you best features. Primark, H&M and Target have some super cute affordable ones!

Beige Jumpsuit - H&M - $30

A lot like skirts, dresses are light weight, cool and perfect for those spring days. You can dress them down to wear while running errands or dress them up to go out at night. So having a couple of cute and simple ones in your capsule wardrobe is a must!

Denim Dress - Nordstrom Rack - $48
White Dress - UNIQLO - $30

Adding some accessories to any outfit can make it a million times better! I usually keep mine simple and neutral, but accessories are a good place to add pops of color and pattern if that's your thing! If your outfit is neutrals, add a fun bag or belt. If your outfit has a print or pattern in it, opt for simple and neutral accents. Accessories should always compliment your outfit, never clash with it!

Cognac Crossbody Bag - ASOS - $35
Gold & Leather Watch - Nordstrom - $115
Sunglasses - Quay - $65
Brown Leather Belt - Forever 21 - $6

Last, but definitely not least...shoes! I'm a bit obsessed with shoes and am always on the look out for great ones to add to my closet. Shoes have a way of completing an outfit and tying everything together. Like accessories, shoes are a good way to make a statement and brine in some fun patterns if your outfit is more on the neutral side. It's good to include a variety of styles in your capsule wardrobe! I've actually found some really cute pairs lately at Charlotte Russe, Amazon, Forever 21, Express and Target.

Booties - Express $60
Leopard Sandals - Amazon -
Cut Out Flats - Nordstrom Rack - $50
White Sneakers - Converse - $50

I hope y'all enjoyed this capsule wardrobe post and will be inspired to put your own together soon. Cheers to a great March and warmer weather!!
