YAY FOR HEALTHY SNACKS & BLOGGING!

What better way to start off this blog than eating a wonderfully healthy snack?! Ok ok I know that the Ranch isn’t the best, but hey it gets me to eat veggies for a snack haha.

We all know that playing catch up with a journal, blog, or diary is nearly impossible…especially when it has literally been years since you’ve written.  So today, I am attempting the impossible. I’m not going back to age 10 or anything,  but there have been so many great things that have happened in my life recently that I have to write about them!

First, Shawn and I now live in Boston! Yes, these two “West-Coasters” now live on the East Coast. A year ago this week we found out that Shawn had been accepted to Boston University’s Dental School!  We flew out here in May after our graduation from Southern Utah University to find housing.  That’s when we had our first rude awakening! Rent here is SO EXPENSIVE!!!! And everything in our initial budget was built in like the 1800s…over 200 years ago!  I have mixed emotions about this little fact.  Part of the charm of Boston is that it’s one of the oldest cities in the country and there are some amazing landmarks and sites here.  That being said, having a house that old is not so charming.  Everything breaks down.  The heating is ancient and costs a fortune to run.  Garages are almost non-existent.  So we tried to find a place that was newer and wouldn’t require maintenance since Shawn would be super busy with school.  Well we found a place, but of course it’s 10 miles north of downtown Boston and Shawn’s school.  His daily commute is about an hour+ each way…to go 10 miles!  Of course we didn’t know that when we chose this place.  So our new task is to find a place closer to his school that isn’t outrageous in price.  Wish us luck!

Everything out here is different than back home.  Driving.  Traffic.  Population.  Skyscrapers.  Accents.  Snow.  Prices.  Religion.  It’s different, but so fun!  It’s a great four-year adventure for our little family.  We are getting to see things we never would have otherwise!  We’ve seen several Red Sox Games, The Freedom Trail, The Bunker Hill Monument, New York City, Maine, New Hampshire, lighthouses, Six Flags New England, museums, Charles River, Boston Tea Party site, Mike’s Pastry, and the list goes on (see “TRAVEL” tab for details and pictures)!

Here’s some more fun things that have happened since moving to Boston.  Shawn’s parents came out to visit.  Shawn’s sister and her husband came to see us.  One of my best friends flew out for a week.  We survived our first Thanksgiving on our own.  We live a mile from the beach.  We learned how to make fresh homemade sushi.  We have survived 5 blizzards in four weeks.  We’ve seen life size sand sculptures.  We found out we’re going to have another little nephew in May.  The New England Patriots won the Super Bowl.  We’ve made so many great friends and memories already! Can't wait to see what else will come our way.
